This year, you may have struggled to get your biz to where you wanted it to be.
Perhaps you struggled to get clients or were stuck on your long, endless list of tasks that just had to be finished before you could even think of launching your biz to the world.
But my wish for you this Christmas is that right now, right this minute, you step into being a $3K/ $5k / $10K a month entrepreneur - whatever feels like the next step for you (and yes, this goes for you even if you haven't got one client, or made one sale).
Christmas can be a magical time of year, A time of glistening snow, warming hot drinks, rosy cheeked children, and laughter around a cozy log fire.
So this may not be your reality (I live in dark, damp UK for goodness sake) but whatever our circumstances, this festive season can be a time of magic, of possibilities of allowing ourselves to dream for the year ahead. It would be a sorry time indeed if it were,
"Always winter but never Christmas."
C.S.Lewis. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
For many, this involves thinking about what we're setting this January for 2017's New Year's resolutions. Perhaps it involves planning how we're going to find those five new clients or write those regular blog posts.
But the question I'd like to ask you is how helpful have these been to you in the past?
Because maybe this year it's time to find a way that helps us change much more powerfully with far more success. I'm talking blowing apart all our carefully planned resolutions and thinking far, far bigger than we're dared to dream in the past.
And what if there was an easier way to achieve our dreams?
A way that rather than focusing on the different goals we wanted to achieve, looked instead at who we want to be because when we focus on this level of change everything else slots effortlessly into place.
We're all familiar with the idea of the self-fulling prophecy. I believe I'm capable of making deep connections with others and I'm likable so I reach out, behave in friendly way and hey, I find this is reflected in my world.
My identity leads me to certain beliefs so I behave in a particular way and if I believe the opposite, my beliefs and behaviour are very, very different.
This is automatic.
But what if we could do this for ourselves, if we could tweak our image, nudge it onto a more empowering trajectory? Then we could start creating our perfect, future identity NOW, suspend judgement and disbelief and make the decision to allow reality to amble along in its own time to catch up with us.
What would this mean?
It would mean that reaching our goals would be about being pulled forward rather than being pushed by all the tasks we need to complete and the fear of not succeeding.
It's motivation at a much, much deeper level.
So say I'm working on becoming a £$10K a month (consistently and without effort) entrepreneur.
My task is to conjure up a vivid image of who I would be if this were true. Then I ask myself, if this were true, what would I believe, what would be important to me?
And then I start acting as if.
So it's out with the self doubt, the procrastination and the perfectionism because in my world, a $£10k a month entrepreneur isn't sitting on the couch, wondering if they've really got it in them, if the world really needs to hear their message, if their ideal client isn't just a self-indulgent fantasy.
They're out there. Big time. Making connections, doing the things that scare them, they're showing up, being consistent. Just getting on with it and dodging the setbacks and celebrating the steps forward.
Because that's who they are.
So who are you, now? Are you being WHO you want to be, or is there room for a soupcon of movement forward, a huge leap or a blast forward into success so quickly you haven't even got time to get your party shoes on?
